This guide explains the recommended way to connect a Telegram bot to SendBot.

1. Create your Telegram bot

  1. Open @BotFather in Telegram.
  2. Send /newbot.
  3. Choose the display name your customers will see.
  4. Choose a unique username. For standard BotFather bots, the username should end in bot, for example my_company_bot.
  5. Copy the bot token returned by BotFather.
Treat the bot token like a password. Anyone with the token can control the bot.

2. Connect the bot in SendBot

  1. Open your bot in Studio.
  2. Go to Share → Telegram.
  3. Choose Create new account.
  4. Optionally name the connection and paste the Bot token.
  5. Save the connection.
SendBot validates the bot through Telegram, persists the credential binding, generates the webhook security secret on the server, registers the webhook and enables the Telegram channel. You do not need to create a webhook secret or call setWebhook manually.

3. Check the connection

After connecting, Studio shows the Telegram bot identity and connection status. A healthy connection should show:
  • the expected Telegram username;
  • Connection active;
  • no Telegram webhook error;
  • pending updates returning to zero after messages are processed.
Use Reconnect Telegram only when the webhook needs to be registered again. The webhook URL is available as a diagnostic detail. The security secret is managed by SendBot and is not part of the normal setup flow.

4. Optional advanced settings

Under Advanced settings you can:
  • pause or resume the Telegram channel;
  • change the session expiry timeout;
  • define a start condition.
These settings are optional. A newly connected Telegram bot is enabled automatically.

5. Publish

Publish the bot after the Telegram connection is healthy. Publishing makes the current bot flow available to new Telegram sessions.

Troubleshooting

Token rejected

Return to @BotFather and confirm that you copied the current token for the correct bot. If a token was exposed, revoke it in BotFather and create a new one.

Webhook not connected

Use Reconnect Telegram in Studio and then Refresh status.

Messages reach Telegram but no SendBot session starts

Confirm that:
  • Studio shows the same Telegram credential that owns the active webhook;
  • the Telegram channel is enabled;
  • the bot has been published;
  • the webhook status does not show a provider error.
If the webhook is healthy but the runtime still does not create a session, collect the bot/workspace identifiers and the approximate message time for technical investigation.
